excellent framing, registration, corners and edges. Several surface blemishes frot and back and some short creases, detract.
I grade on a curve. Sue me. I would gladly take the surface marks/scuffs and the dabs of oil and caramel on the back. For a modern card, that's called damage. For a 1914 CJ, it's called provenance.
And despite the stains and chip in the right border, I am stil giving this an A. It just all comes together for my eye.
My eye is split between the clarity of the image and the unfortunate chunk out of the left border. Still solid eye appeal IMO.
Eye appeal to me doesn't have to mean an immaculate card. In the case of these super old ones and this set in particular I find the cards very attractive with some flaws-- all depends what they are, of course.
Nicely centered and I don't mind the caramel stains on these, part of the character. The creases are small and well placed but the small piece missing on the right border would bother me a little.
Quintessential case of flaws that just do not add up to much. It's more alchemy than science. Love this card! This is like a fighter who still looks cool and badass having taken some shots.
Spectacular 1. Colors and centering are great. Has some tobacco stains but so what? Itβs a 1914 Cracker Jack.
On the 1914 Cracker Jacks I do not mind the staining as I know it was from the card being in the box and the caramel getting on them. But this card has damage on the borders on middle left and bottom 1/3 right that I do not like and it catches my eye everytime,

Stained in the best way. Gotta love the proof that this card was inside a Cracker Jack box. Solid centering. This is what a β14 CJ should look like.
